چکیده
Recent research suggests people typically “give up” pursuing their New Year resolutions within the first month. The present study investigated goal features proposed to be implicated in promoting both mental wellbeing and sustained resolution pursuit. Australian UK participants (n = 182) took part an online longitudinal study, including four timepoints over a two-month period. At baseline, listed which they were most committed, completed self-report measures assess wellbeing, flexibility tenacity. follow-up surveys, measure commitment, effort stickability. As predicted, predicted across time, however, tenacity did not. Counter prediction, neither nor reported at baseline “sticking” with one’s resolution. interaction between was not significant. focused predominantly on “diet” “exercise” same previously pursued tended relatively abstract. Although greater findings overall tend support view that are particularly good sticking resolutions. Implications of discussed.

متن کاملSpontaneous mental contrasting and selective goal pursuit.
Mental contrasting a desired future with reality is a self-regulation strategy that fosters selective goal pursuit; people pursue goals for which they have high expectations of success, and let go of those for which they have low expectations. Indulging in the future, dwelling on the reality, or contrasting the reality with the future lead to indiscriminate goal pursuit. We developed a content ...

The authors explore the interplay between consumers’ progress levels toward attaining a goal and the perceived velocity in progressing toward the goal to determine consumers’ motivation for further goal pursuit. The authors propose that when progress toward attaining a goal is low, consumers are primarily concerned about the question “Can I get there?” Thus, a high (vs. low) perceived velocity ...

Recent work has discovered that human goal pursuit can emerge in the absence of conscious awareness. This paper addresses this issue by proposing an affective-motivational route to nonconscious goal pursuit. Specif...
